General description of Sense India and the Post
Sense International India also known as Sense India, is a National level NGO working with NGO partners in 23 States; has provided services and education to 78,000+ deafblind children and adults. Sense India exists to improve the quality of life for deafblind people in India through advocacy, campaigns and support to partner organisations to develop needs-based services for deafblind people. The Post-holder will be responsible for supporting Trusts, Foundation and Corporate vertical with assistance from the Public Engagement team to achieve Sense India’s mission and to contribute to the overall programme development.
The Post-holder works with and supports the Senior Manager – Foundation and Corporate and Head – Public Engagement to ensure building of a pipeline with Corporates, Trusts and Foundations and other Institutional donors to raise resources , in line with agreed plans and targets to support and develop the organization’s operational and strategic objectives. The overall goal is to ensure increased capacity of Sense India to engage corporate, trusts and foundations to support deafblind work in India.
It is anticipated that the nature of the post will change as work and opportunities develop. Apart from the above roles, the Post-holder will have an opportunity to increase his/ her own skills and develop the job.
1. Purpose of the post
Within Sense India’s primary aim to support the development of services for deafblind people in India, the purpose of this post is to:
Support the corporate engagement strategy which helps to fulfill Sense India’s strategic and fundraising objectives through:
Creating a strong pipeline of prospects for grant support through the following sectors - Corporate, Trusts/foundations and Institutions
Approaching the prospects initially through cold calls/emails and building the base for meetings and submission of proposals
Follow up and staying in touch with the donors
Working with the internal team for donor reports and updates
Creating a pipeline of potential donors corporate through cold calls and emails and fixing up meetings
Support the project partners of Sense India in building their fundraising capacity
To provide the highest level of service and information to existing and prospective supporters, contacts, partners and Sense International India staff
2. Key accountabilities/tasks
Researching for potential Corporates, Trusts/Foundations both national and international and creating a database. Create a robust pipeline to be pursued for fundraising and continue on building it
Identifying the right point of contact and approaching the prospects through cold calls/emails
Follow up with prospects for setting up meetings and taking it forward to the proposal submission stage. Also, regular follow ups post proposal submission.
Support in finalizing proposals and concept notes.
Devise and present innovative fundraising ideas of mutual benefit to a corporate and Sense India.
Proactively prospect ‘Charity-of-the-Year’ opportunities, Pro-Bono work and employee engagement opportunities
Attend networking events to develop new relationships
Develop opportunities for corporate sponsorship, corporate membership schemes, payroll-giving, employee fundraising and other forms of corporate engagement
Review the quality of all corporate led events within the parameters of responsible financial management and positive PR and media coverage
Ensure volunteers are used as often as possible to support and expand corporate engagement activities
Ensure all corporate supporters receive relevant and timely communication resulting in the development of long-term relationships
Produce monthly reports that outline progress and achievements within the period including number of Corporate approached, meetings set etc.
Keep informed on market trends and developments in the corporate sector
Ensure that, via corporate relations, all opportunities are maximized to generate awareness and understanding of the work that we do.
Represent Sense India to corporate audiences and at corporate events
Maintain all general paper and donor database systems as required
Acknowledge and deal with routine correspondence from companies and other audiences as required
Be responsible for all administrative tasks relating to the job.
3. PERSON SPECIFICATION
Graduation and above in any discipline. For example, MBA marketing/customer relations
At least 1-3 year of related experience.
Experience of developing a continuing programme of research and development that will identify new engagement opportunities and market competitors
An understanding of the corporate sector and CSR responsibilities
A highly motivated individual who is able to work well on their own initiative, as well as part of a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people at all levels
Excellent time management and organsational skills
Interpersonal skills – able to interact with wide variety of personnel to achieve positive outcomes and establish sustainable relationships & partnerships
IT self-sufficient - knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
Work closely with the relevant staff across Sense India and to ensure effective co-operation and collaboration
Ability to plan and prioritize own workload and work without close supervision
Experience/familiarity with Databases
Knowledge of or empathy with the work for people with disabilities/ deafblindness
