GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POST
There is a broad scope to this post within Sense International India. In line with Sense International India's strategic plans and policy guidelines to work under the leadership of Senior Specialist- Capacity Building, in planning, implementing and monitoring agreed objectives / issues with Sense International India partners. The person will participate and contribute to the development of wider institutional strategy.
It is anticipated and hoped that the nature of the post will change as the work continues to develop. Apart from the above roles, the post holder will have an opportunity to increase their skills and develop the job. This is very much a developmental job and the areas of responsibility will increase over a period of time.
PURPOSE OF POST
Key accountabilities/tasks
Project management and development- Manage relationship with Sense International India project partners through regular visits and undertake project appraisal, monitoring, evaluation and ensure minimum organisational programme management standards
- Provide support for partners in preparation and development of programme reports and budgetary progress reports in compliance with Sense International India
- Prepare, monitor and analyse project reports and budgets
- Visit partner organisations to review project progress and advice partners on programme management and compliance with Sense International India objective
- Support in capacity building need assessment, planning, organising and facilitating trainings and workshops for partners
- Support in reporting and documentation of programme activities to various audiences including donors
- Support in logistic arrangement during trainings and workshops
- Work closely with the team on areas of relevance
- Work closely on project proposals to be submitted to donor agencies
- Support Senior Specialist- Capacity Building and other colleagues in organisational assessment and capacity building plans
- Work closely with project partners to support them in taking greater responsibility of deafblind work in their regions
- Feedback partner assessment reports into overall Sense International India strategies
- Regular correspondence with partners and maintain updated records and files .
- Assisting Senior Specialist- Capacity Building and other team members in any other way which leads to fulfilment of the overall objectives of Sense International India.
- Need based support to other teams within the organisation viz. Fund raising and public engagement, Communication and Finance
- Attend meetings and be involved in other activities at irregular hours as required
- Any other work as agreed with the line manager
- Ideally you will be a Post Graduate in social sciences/ management/ disability studies with a skill to work in the development sector
- Experience in implementation/management of development programmes, preferably in disability field
- Strong analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking skills
- Knowledge of models towards sustainable programmes and networking (including participatory methodologies)
- Demonstrated ability to plan projects, understand budgets, and implement time bound activities .
- You will be fluent in English and Hindi with good communication skills. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage
- You will have basic knowledge to operate computer and Microsoft Office software
- You will be willing to travel all over India

General Description of Sense India and the Post
Sense International India (also known as Sense India) is the only national-level organisation supporting needs-based services which enables children and adults with deafblindness to overcome the challenges caused due to deafblindness. Sense India's key objective is to provide information, guidance, support, and training needed along with being committed to supporting persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities and their families by raising awareness and campaigning for their rights, opportunities, and services throughout the nation. It is working in 23 states with partner organisations and reaching out to 78,000+ children and adults with deafblindness.

1. Job purpose
The post of Communications Officer is vital to the successful delivery of Sense International India’s strategy. You will lead on Sense India’s external communications activities, working with the Sense India team including programme and public engagement staff to ensure that relevant messages are disseminated across appropriate channels. Work closely with Senior Manager – Digital Engagement in spearheading digital branding and fundraising objectives of the organisation and ensuring its effective implementation.
2. Key Accountabilities/ Tasks :
Designing Communication Strategy of Sense International India
- Developing and implementing effective communication strategies and plans that build brand awareness and lead to growth and retention of donor base.
- Strategising social media campaigns and developing an annual social media calendar.
Content Development
- Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all collateral including posters, social media posts, videos, presentations, brochures etc.
- Create informative and appealing press releases, newsletters, e-mailers, media kits and related materials, and curate message or media kit for social and digital media communication.
Operations Management
- Media relations: Develop and build relationships with key media contacts, audiences and partner organisations. Manage media monitoring and evaluation to ensure that relevant coverage is captured and analysed as well as shared internally.
- Website Management:Contribute to the management of website and social media content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn)
- Volunteer Management: Engage with volunteers and appropriately engage them with projects that aid and extend the organisations work and reach.
- Coordinate with Programme Teamto streamline and multiply efforts on communication, generate new ideas and strategies for different projects and programmes.
- Content Library and Knowledge Management:Ensure a safe repository of all knowledge products like success stories, pictures, articles, data etc. is maintained, managed and retrievable at any time.
3. Person specification
Essential requirements
- A degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related area.
- A minimum of 3+ years’ experience
- Proven experience in creating targeted content is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques used by the development sector.
- Experience of developing a supporter journey within a strategic approach to communications
- Experience of working with the media to raise awareness and profile of an organisation
- Good understanding of social and digital media is critical
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
- Proficiency in design and publishing software.
- Ability to think creatively/laterally and a desire to challenge traditional methodology
